I wrote the book Build Your Own Home, built the Build Right Community and added this forum to help everyone as much as possible, not to be a micromanager about “you put this here when it should have been there”
Do your thing, post progress pictures, ask questions. Live life. Don’t worry, be happy.

The image attached to the post above is from a church we have done a lot of work on over the years. Good people.
They called me one evening, worried sick, telling me someone had hit the porta cache and knocked down the beam supporting the roof.
A U-Haul truck had driven under it and broke the beam and the entire roof dropped on the front side by about 4 feet. They got some 2×6’s and propped it back up so it would not fall down completely.
They asked if we could fix it. Yes, we can!
The bean is a glue lam beam, and when this happened no one in the entire USA was building this type of beam. During Covid a lot of manufactures shut down or changed what products they produce until the world was deemed safe again.
I have a woodshop at our home, and I have always loved building things, and I knew how to build it, I have just never built a Glue Lam beam. However, I could not find one anywhere in the US or Canada. The only kind I could get was an LVL beam. But then I would have to change the other two so they would all three match.
I knew how to do it, I could not find one anywhere, but what was I going to do, ‘Tell God NO!’ Yea, that aint happening. So, I bought the lumber and almost five gallons of glue a truck load of high-pressure wood clamps, 5,000 nails for my nail gun 50 – 10″ stainless steel bolts and I built the beam myself in my driveway.
There is no way I am telling God NO after all He has done for me.
