“The Seconds” (rough-ins) can turn into an absolute war zone if you schedule your subcontractors in the wrong order. If your HVAC guy runs massive ductwork right where the plumber needs a 3-inch drain line drop, someone is going to be cutting structural framing or charging you a massive change-order fee.

In Build Your Own Home, I discuss the critical importance of keeping a tight schedule during this phase.

Let’s hear from the community:
  • What sequence are you planning to use for your rough-ins? (e.g., HVAC first because it uses the most space, then plumbing, then electrical?)
  • Veterans: What is the number one coordination mistake you see owner-builders make when scheduling their rough-in trades?
Drop your layout dilemmas or scheduling advice here!
