Welcome to the Pre-Construction board. In Build Your Own Home, I stress that this is the absolute most important stage of your entire project. Skipping or rushing through planning, engineering, budgeting, and scheduling guarantees expensive changes later.
Before you even apply for permits, you have to lock down your house plans.
- What route did you take for your home design? Did you buy a set of stock blueprints online and modify them, or did you hire a local architect/draftsman to design a custom layout from scratch?
- The Budget: What tool or spreadsheet are you currently using to track your initial cost estimates during this phase?
